Today was a truly wonderful day!! We started out for Provincetown and our whale watching cruise. First off, we ate lunch when we got there but we did not have a lot of seafood to choose from since we were at a steakhouse. I did get clam chowder again which was sooooo good and I had half a tuna fish sandwich just so I could stay in the seafood theme. It was good but I hope to be more adventurous in the last few days here. We parked the car at the highest point in this city (there is even a monument here you can go up in to see how high you are). Going down the mountain (or street to some) was quite easy since it was a ski slope. I will tell you how it was to get back to the car at the end. So we headed to the wharf to get on our boat and we were one of the first ones to board and got the seats we wanted on the top deck in the back of the boat. Luckily, I had bought a Cape Code jacket yesterday since it was very cold and windy on the boat and the light jacket I had bought to bring felt like wearing Kleenex even with wind or cold (as most people know, I have a lovely yellow all weather jacket at home in my closet that I was not allowed to bring on this trip. It would have a joy to have here!!) Anyway, I did have the hood up and tied around my head which I realize now is not very attractive. Dawn took my picture and even I wet my pants when I saw it. I look like a Druid (to anyone that doesn’t know what that is, it is a medieval term used in England when they are referring to witches and weirdos). Enough about me. The whales were the absolute stars of the day. So fantastic and so huge and so wonderful. I have never seen anything so wonderful so close to me. I even saw inside the mouth of one and saw the balen in a whales mouth. This is a strange filtering system in his mouth that allows the food to enter that he wants. For being the largest mammal, they eat the smallest food in the ocean. Each time they surfaced, we were so amazed and totally in awe of the size and strength of this wonderful mammal. The trip back to shore was a freezing experience and we were icebergs when we did get off. We shopped for awhile and then headed to the mountain to climb up to the car. About halfway up, I was wondering if I was having a heart attack but hated to mention it to anyone. The fact that I looked like I was having a heart attack must have occurred to Carolyn because she asked if Dawn and I would like for them to get the car so Dawn and I did stop walking on the spot and say yes. Carol, as usual, was so far out of sight that she didn’t even see us at all. I could have died on the side of the road and she would have heard about it later. This was nothing new though since when shopping she is so far ahead of me that it is a wonder I ever know what store she goes in. The end of the story is our two saviors went around the parking lot and came up the one way street and picked us up. Once again, I fell into the car grateful to sit down and call it a day. How does Kirstie Alley do it!!
too bad you couldn't take your BIG BIRD yellow looking jacket so sad...NOT!!
