Who is Marcy?????

Post Trip - Back to the Desert

It's Sunday and we are all home. It was only 98 yesterday when we arrived back in Texas. Glad to be home however and sleep in my own bed. I just wanted to take a moment to thank my wonderful friends for a week of fun and laughter. It's wonderful to have great friends to travel with. Most of all thank you all for being there when all the madness started with Mom on Tuesday, I don't know what I would have done if you guys weren't there with me to help me cope with the stress that the miles away can bring and the helplessness you have when you can't do anything. Your all terrific and I had a wonderful time, look forward to Graceland.....I love you all!

Time to Go Home

I can't believe a week has gone by and we have to leave this beautiful place. The weather has been so great and the laughter beyond compare. I wish I had seen Carole fall off her bike this morning because as everyone knows, I would have fallen down laughing hysterically and wet my pants at the same. Good thing I missed it I guess because I am out of pants!! Dawn and I got so carried away with goofing off that we allowed our picture to be taken without our pants on so be sure to keep your eyes out for that photo!! And keep a barf bag close by also to use after viewing. Well, I guess this is it for this trip. See everyone soon.

Our Last Day

Well Terry and I are at the Library while Carolyn and Carole are riding bicycles on the bike path. Carole has already run into a tree and fell off the bike with her feet in the air.....didn't see it personally but Carolyn told us all about it.....laughter had by all.......and now she is around a bunch of other people on the bicycle, could be very dangerous for all the OTHER people. We went to the beach this morning while the tide was out and walked way out on the sand bars looking for clams. I think the Clam police had been there as we were walking out to warn all the clams to run because we couldn't find any. We finally came upon some seasoned clammers and they showed us what to look for....it was different than the man we encountered the first couple of days we were here. He was looking for steamers and this girl was looking for Razor Clams anyway, she showed Carolyn where one was and Carolyn pulled it out from its hiding place. Later Carolyn discovered one on her own and it scared her so he had time to retreat from her grasp.....lucky Clam! A dog just jumped from the bushes and scared the crap out of us....geeeze dog....well anyway, we will be packing and starting to get ourselves ready to come back home....booo hooo booo hoooo! We all want to move here and finish out our days in the peaceful atomsphere of the Cape....it is truely lovely....signing out and see all ya'll at home!

Twin Mermaids in Chatham

This is Pixar

Wednesday August 12, 2009

Wednesday morning we all popped up anxious to go back to PTown and see the whales. The traffic there was crazy again because there is only one route, but well worth it! I like that place!!
We boarded our boat at 1:45 and headed for the Whales. It was misting, overcast, and very cool going out as the water got a little choppy. Our guide was very informative describing every detail of the Humpback, Minke, and whatever other kind that we saw. The show put on by these mammals was unbelievable. I still maintain there was a sea world trainer on board giving commands for our entertainment! We did too much sloshing around so naturally sea sickness did set in for me, but every time the whales would display their flukes it vanished. Coming back we again passed the tip of the Cape and I just can’t grasp how far away from home I am. Glad I am with such good friends.

Tuesday August 11, 2009

Tuesday morning we arrived at the Library to hook Dawn’s laptop to the internet and began blogging. With no internet service we are forced there everyday so I hope you all read every line that is written and give comments, (very important to Dawn, Carole, and Terry). Anyway, while at the library, there was a man that tried to engage us in conversation by saying, he knew who killed Jon Benet Ramsey and several others. This wanna be FBI agent kept telling us the District Attorney would not believe him and shoving in our faces; why do we attract the weirdo’s?
We finally left and began our journey to Boston. Carole is dreaming of Starbucks but has to settle for Dunkin Donuts. When we do find one its not at the right time. Terry and I are amazed at the lack of bathrooms. Convienent stores don’t let you use their’s, and at this gas station/garage there was only one bathroom for workers and customers!
We finally arrived in Boston, several hours later after two backseat drivers!!!!!(Carole and Terry) took us via the truck route. Shopping at Quincy Market and Fanuiel Hall was ok but the best part was our visit to Cheers Bar ! We walked the mile trip but didn’t tell Dawn and Terry the actual distance. We walked past the Massachusetts State House and a Cemetery passengers from the Mayflower. Cheers was fun with pictures of the stars on the walls. Another long day and our wonderful chauffeur , Dawn got us to the Cape.

Moby Dick slept here!

Whale of A Tale – Day Five – August 12,2009
Our morning began at the Library (yes Jimmy we really do go to the REAL LIBRARY) we had to post our entries onto the blog. I had everyone type their postings last night so that we could go to the library and cut and paste quickly…..well that worked until we got to Carolyn…..she had technical difficulty when accepting the invitation. So tomorrow we will have to get her set up so she can post.
We started our travels today heading North to PTown…..(ProvinceTown) We had a Whale Watching cruise scheduled for 2:00 and wanted to eat before we got to the boat. We had a delicious meal at Vorelli’s…..I had a wonderful Crab Cake….it was really good, better than the one from the first day. We proceeded to the boat for our exciting whale spotting voyage aboard the Dolphin VIII. It was cloudy and misty as we left the dock. We found seats on the top deck at the back so we could see all around us. As we progressed away from land, it became colder and colder…..but it was so cool to see the shore line, it looked just like the map so you could tell exactly where you were. As we went out we saw lots of fishing boats, so the fishing must have been good. We then spotted a Spray shoot up and then a Humpback Whale surfaced. We saw several come right up to the boat. It was much closer than I had seen in Alaska….but the whales were not as active as in Alaska, but it was still awesome………….after the voyage we went shopping in town again and purchased more exciting gifts for our loved ones and of course ourselves. Headed for home and spent a quiet evening at the kitchen writing about our journeys. Pictures will be posted later….

Boston

Look Out Boston - Day Four – August 11, 2009Our little adventure today started with our trip to the Library to try to blog again……this time we were successful except that we ran out of town before we could get everyone signed on and posting….so Terry and I posted our first day as you have already read. We decided that we would type the postings out in the evening on the laptop and then go to the library in the mornings and just cut and paste our entries…..so on to the trip to Boston…..we stopped in Orleans for breakfast at the Hole In One…..scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes…..hmmmmm good….ready for Boston. I didn’t realize until last night that Carole had no clue where we needed to go in Boston, after all she lived there, you would think she would know where some things are…..but no that wasn’t to happen. If I had known that I would have been better studied in the roadways of Boston. So I quickly got together a plan using maps and my IPhone……what a life saver that little jewel is. I had a route all mapped out and in my head. We would take a little side trip to Plymouth to see the historic Plymouth Rock, a very important part of our American history, something I really wanted to see on this trip more than anything else in the whole stinking state……I was going to see Plymouth Rock……WOW. Well, we missed the turn and our two hour drive ended up being a 5 hour drive down the worst side of Boston……and then Carole proceeds to inform me that Plymouth Rock is over rated, its just a dirt rock in the water and not even marked. I was crushed! I had a imagined a gleaming rock protruding from the waters, a beacon to all who came that this was the promised land, home of the free…..but no its just a stinking rock and I didn’t even get to see it. We finally arrived in Boston and went right to the Quincy Market with no trouble at all……Shopping at Quincy Market was like shopping at an outdoor North Star mall…..I did find a few gift items for family and friends but otherwise unimpressed. The building were awesome and the cobblestoned streets full of history. We walked to Cheers and had dinner (everyone didn’t know our names, I was yet again disappointed) and Norm wasn’t there……so we said goodbye to Boston and drove home in the fog…..this time it only took 2 hours instead of 5, glad to be back, it is much cooler tonight.

Day 5 - August 12, 2009

Today was a truly wonderful day!! We started out for Provincetown and our whale watching cruise. First off, we ate lunch when we got there but we did not have a lot of seafood to choose from since we were at a steakhouse. I did get clam chowder again which was sooooo good and I had half a tuna fish sandwich just so I could stay in the seafood theme. It was good but I hope to be more adventurous in the last few days here. We parked the car at the highest point in this city (there is even a monument here you can go up in to see how high you are). Going down the mountain (or street to some) was quite easy since it was a ski slope. I will tell you how it was to get back to the car at the end. So we headed to the wharf to get on our boat and we were one of the first ones to board and got the seats we wanted on the top deck in the back of the boat. Luckily, I had bought a Cape Code jacket yesterday since it was very cold and windy on the boat and the light jacket I had bought to bring felt like wearing Kleenex even with wind or cold (as most people know, I have a lovely yellow all weather jacket at home in my closet that I was not allowed to bring on this trip. It would have a joy to have here!!) Anyway, I did have the hood up and tied around my head which I realize now is not very attractive. Dawn took my picture and even I wet my pants when I saw it. I look like a Druid (to anyone that doesn’t know what that is, it is a medieval term used in England when they are referring to witches and weirdos). Enough about me. The whales were the absolute stars of the day. So fantastic and so huge and so wonderful. I have never seen anything so wonderful so close to me. I even saw inside the mouth of one and saw the balen in a whales mouth. This is a strange filtering system in his mouth that allows the food to enter that he wants. For being the largest mammal, they eat the smallest food in the ocean. Each time they surfaced, we were so amazed and totally in awe of the size and strength of this wonderful mammal. The trip back to shore was a freezing experience and we were icebergs when we did get off. We shopped for awhile and then headed to the mountain to climb up to the car. About halfway up, I was wondering if I was having a heart attack but hated to mention it to anyone. The fact that I looked like I was having a heart attack must have occurred to Carolyn because she asked if Dawn and I would like for them to get the car so Dawn and I did stop walking on the spot and say yes. Carol, as usual, was so far out of sight that she didn’t even see us at all. I could have died on the side of the road and she would have heard about it later. This was nothing new though since when shopping she is so far ahead of me that it is a wonder I ever know what store she goes in. The end of the story is our two saviors went around the parking lot and came up the one way street and picked us up. Once again, I fell into the car grateful to sit down and call it a day. How does Kirstie Alley do it!!

Day 4 - August 11, 2009

Well we got a late start on our trip to Boston which eventually took 6 hours instead of 2 hours. A series of missed turns as it turned out. We finally got to Quincy Market in Boston but I did not find anything I needed or wanted today. Carole led us on a one mile walk to the original Cheers Bar which was actually a 2 mile walk and we all know how much I love a hike being fat and out of shape. We ate dinner there which means we had hamburgers (no seafood to test here). On a scale of one to ten, I would put this as a 2 – it was close to being a one but the hamburger was not bad. We did find out that Dawn knows a few words that start with an f and end with a k and one of them is fire truck. We do not want Frank to know that she let a few big one slip but after all the missed turns, who could blame her. Actually, it was quite funny and made the trip maybe a 3 now that I think about it.

Carole Continued...

Our third day here on the Cape was spent in Boston….this was a trip down memory lane for me. Leslie, Diana and I were here about 6 years ago and had a blast shopping in Quincy Market and Fanieul Hall. It looks about the same girls and I did purchase some little souvenirs for you. The four of us however, walked to the original Cheers and had some beer and dinner and of course we had a lot of cheer! Pictures to be downloaded later. The drive to Boston was fraught with the dreaded “wrong turn” which impacted us the whole day as it took about 4 hours to get there instead of 2, other than that, the trip was uneventful and we have all noticed that the interstates are not cluttered with billboards and other signs, so it is very clean looking and refreshing. It was good to be back in Boston and they have completed the Big Dig and it seems to work well for travelers. So, “we are at the library” seems to be the phrase of the day. It was a priceless comment made by Carolyn when she was talking to Jimmy on the phone and we really were headed to the library to connect to the Wi-Fi at about 10pm with so much cackling in the background that Jimmy even asked if that was the name of a bar! But it was the truth and now no matter where we are, we are “at the library”. And being at the library was it’s own experience in that we met an “agent of the FBI” out solving cases…..I will let Carolyn elaborate on that one!

Today, our fourth day was spent back in Ptown out in the Gulf of Maine watching for whales and WOW did we see some whales. We must have gone right to their feeding grounds because they did come right up to the boats and put on a show for us. The flukes extending out of the waters as they propelled down into the deep is truly a breathtaking sight. They are gentle giants and magnificent creatures who share this planet and I hope they will continue to survive all the changes occurring on the earth. On a personal note, I about froze to death….no surprise there to anyone, the wind on the ocean is strong and cold, the sky was overcast and misty. We have a great shot of Terry as she portrays the Druid culture from 1000 years ago. This picture will follow. More to come.

Carolyn is having Technical Difficulties - here is her post

Saturday Evening August 8, 2009

Four weary travelers arrived to find a darkened quaint cottage in the middle of a forest Sat. nite. After searching and picking locks we found linens and fell into our beds. The air is crisp and cool filled with birds residing in tall pine and spruce Christmas trees. Sunday was spent in Provincetown which is filled with people that want to express themselves in strange ways. I thing we four girls fit in just fine. Again my favorite part so far is the abundance of beautiful flowers and the houses. Monday morning we walked to our private beach and found the tide still out. The boats are just sitting on the sand anchored, very strange looking. We came upon a man clam digging, thanks to Carole we got a great lesson and demonstration of the procedure so I am anxious to try, we have to get a license first. Also on Monday we went to Chatham for lunch and more shopping where we found the most beautiful hydrangeas in every yard of every house. Monday evening we celebrated Terry Lou’s birthday with casino clams, schrod fish, shrimp, salmon, mussels, and of course alcohol.

Day 3

Day 3 8/10/09
I am officially 60 years old today and it sure sounds old!! We went shopping in Chatham and saw gorgeous flowers everywhere. We stopped the car in the street so I could jump out and be photographed with giant hollyhocks in someones yard. So fun!! We all sang to Elvis songs real loud – Carole did one solo and it was priceless – you had to be there!! We ate at a nice restaurant in Wellfleet where I ordered mussels. Had a little trouble getting them out, amusing a couple across from us. Carole ended up taking pictures of them!! I wasn’t too fond of the taste of mussels or the battle in getting them out but I will keep on trying the new food. It did get warmer today but not hot to me yet. I love the weather. Oh, and we also went to the library at 10:00 at night to try and get a computer connection which almost ended up being lethal. Dawn asked if she should turn right at an intersection and Carolyn said yes-----we ended up at the beach and could have taken a quick dip just like Ted Kennedy did one night on the Cape but then again, Dawn was sober so we just turned around. Thank you Dawn for once again saving the day!!

Day 2

Day 2 8/9/09
We all woke up and sat on the deck for breakfast and coffee, soda, etc. We left for Provincetown where Carole became agitated on the road because traffic was being stopped to let church goers out. She started yelling “all Christians should be thrown to the lions” and went on to include “fags”. This went on to include how Romans cut off young boys balls to keep their voices high. If this is a strange segue to you – you are right!! P-Town had lots of gay couples and a few strange guys in drag. We finally realized that we looked like two gay couples ourselves so Carole and I hugged at a busstop for a photo and embarrassed a lesbian that was passing by with our hysterical laughter – oh well – you can’t win them all!! I had lobster salad on a roll but I was not too impressed. I will keep trying the local fare though. And it is still soooo cold here especially at night.

Chatham

Terry’s Birthday – August 10, 2009
Its was hot! The weather that is…..Carolyn, Carole and I walked to the beach…….we still haven’t seen the tide when it is in……??? We ran into a really nice local guy who taught us all about Clam digging…….he showed us how to look for Spit holes and then how to dig them out with out getting cut. I thought it was too much work for just a little bit of food, so I didn’t want to pay attention to him…….but he was really nice and I think he liked Carole, cause she had her shirt on backwards………We decided to drive to Chatham, but first we had to go see the guy that manages the cottage because Carole locked the door to the cellar and that is where the washer and dryer is…..so we had to go see if he had a key……gave us some great ideas for dinner and other places to get food near by. There is not a McDonalds, a Burger King or a TACO CABANA anywhere on this island. These people have gills all they do is swim, fish and eat fish. Chatham is very Cape Cod…..typical shops that are beach themed. Bought some cute things to bring home…….Had a marvelous meal at Van Renneslaers…..Potatoe crusted Salmon with mashed Sweet Pototoes…..hmmmmmmm good. Cream Brulee for dessert……then we rushed back to blog…..then it was off to the library parking lot to see if we could pick up a signal to get internet…..after lurking around the library in the dark we were unsuccessful so we went home and went to bed.

P Town

P TOWN – August 9, 2009
P Town was on the agenda for the day. A pleasant drive up the Cape. Weather was beautiful……we knew that we were in a different world when we came into town and was greeted by and american flag that was a field of blue with the stars but the stripes were rainbow…………….AHHHHHHHH Charlie Brown what is that? I guess we are in Provincetown, home of the Rainbow Coalition and its followers……We walked down the street looking at everyone trying to decide if they were straight or not, we decided that we were the only normal ones here. A guy in a Bikini singing Frank Sinanta , guys holding hands, girls holding hands, a guy in a great looking grey knit dress, beige stockings and beige pumps with a gear on his head riding a pink bicycle. What more could you want from a vacation? We found a place to eat, Terry got her Lobster Roll, I had my Crab cakes, Carolyn had something and so did Carole, I don’t really remember because I was to busy looking at all the couples outside the window. We did a little shopping and then promptly left the scene. Drove next to the beach and saw how the Cap really hooks….the view was awesome from the observation tower. Did buy a really cool Cape Cod bracelet……with a story, sold to me by a real hot one.

Chatham

Monday August 10, 2009
So we spent one day in Ptown and did a lot of people watching, the best entertainment, (picture to follow). The second day we were in Chatham, the exact opposite…a community with old beautiful homes, each with luscious manicured lawns with mother nature’s co-operation providing the perfect mix of rain and sunshine to maintain the images such as these. (Pictures to follow) The shopping was upscale, local shops with a slant toward the sea-faring and pottery that honored the hydrangeas that populated the area as evidenced by these pictures to follow.
Carolyn and I keep waiting for our ship to come in but I doubt it will because we cannot even catch the tide when it is in. We have checked twice and so far, no ocean! We are left standing on clam spit which we learned to recognize by the tutelage of a seasoned clam digger who was most willing to share all his experiences and even a demonstration. We have yet to try our technique but we will.

P Town

Sunday August 9, 2009
Before I comment specifically on our visit to Provincetown (P-Town by the locals), I need to describe our arrival from a visual perspective….we have seen the most beautifully colored flowers, every color known to man and every kind of flower. We must be here at peak blooming season, everything is abloom….truly a visualAdd Image delight. So, our first drive was to Ptown to enjoy the cultural diversity, the artisans and literally being at one end of the land masses on earth! The most striking aspect of this area is the co-existence of dense forestation and sandy beaches. Truly a confusion to your sense of location. But you do walk across thick layers of pine needles to get to the sands of the beaches.
Dawn has been our driver and she has a remarkable sense of direction and she is better than a satellite with a GPS. She drives us around like she has lived here all her life. Another thing I have learned about my travelling compadres is that they all like and enjoy Elvis Presley music. We all linger in the car until his song is over and we sing along with him on the Elvis station. And my friend Carolyn has surprised me with her devotion to Elvis…she has always loved Paul…she is now planning our next trip to guess where in Memphis!

Day one 8/8/09

Dawn greeted us at 4:30AM with a one pound bag of M&M's to start the trip! Breakfast of champions. We had over an hour delay in Detroit due to technical problems with a door to the airplane (we wanted this fixed before we left so ok'd the delay) and then rain and lightening (saw no lightening so we were cursing now). The rain was fun to see though since we had forgotten what it looked like. We had a little trouble finding the house in the dark but got in, made our beds after an hour of trying to get into the linen closet. All windows are left open all night so murderers can crawl in at will. I locked mine but Dawn left hers open and with a fan on her. I had a blanket, bedspread and a sheet. Dawn sleeps with earplugs so she will not hear the murderer. My only hope is he kills her slowly so I will hear the event and can escape. She slept like a log. I kept my ears alert for signs of invasion. Due to technical difficulty, pictures will follow.

Travel

Travel Day One
Well our driver, Sir Frank, picked everyone up beginning at 4:00am…..everyone seemed to be in s lovely mood despite the time. Terry thought we were silly to be there so early, however the line was extremely long and we are lucky that it didn’t take us long to get through security. After getting through security with no problems, we couldn’t find coffee for Carole or anything to eat for the rest of us……nothing is open at O dark thirty……wake up San Antonio, what is wrong with you people don’t you know we gotta eat.
I was lucky I didn’t have anyone setting next to me on the plane to Memphis, the guy at the window seat (I had the aisle) was a short sleeping Japanese guy……I thought he was going to slide under the seat he was slipping down so low in the seat, he slept the whole way…..the steward even had to wake him up.
Then on the way to Detroit……geeeeze, Carolyn had the window, I had the MIDDLE and Joe the Plummer had the aisel and half of my seat. Brother, loose some weight Joe the Plummer these planes aren’t made for seat sharing. On top of that he was chewing tobacco and almost accosted me for my Dr. Pepper bottle so he could spit in it…..is that gross or what……
We finally made it in to Rhode Island after an hour and 10 minute delay and had a wonderful car trip to 20 Perry Ln and our home for the next week. Thank you Tom Tom for perfect directions…..the house was old and cold……windows up and a cool nights sleep, however I don’t think Terry slept for fear of murders or bears breaking in to get us. Miss everyone.......NOT!
